Samburu — in Kenya’s northern frontier — is home to one of East Africa’s most distinctive peoples, carrying ancient traditions of pastoralism, ecology and cultural identity that have survived centuries of change. Samburu National Reserve is also renowned for wildlife found nowhere else in Kenya, including the reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra and the Beisa oryx.
For those drawn to questions of origin and deep human history, a visit to Moru Eloima in Turkana — one of the sites associated with the earliest presence of humankind — offers an encounter with the ancient roots of our shared story.

Jinja sits at the source of the River Nile — one of the world’s great natural landmarks — and offers white-water rafting, boat trips and extraordinary scenery. Murchison Falls, where the Nile forces through a narrow gorge with tremendous power, is one of East Africa’s most dramatic sights. Kidepo Valley National Park, remote and wild in the far north, is widely regarded as one of Africa’s finest and least-visited parks.
Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve — Uganda’s largest — offers vast, unhurried wilderness. Lake Bisina is home to rare and remarkable birdlife, including the Teso Hornbill. At Orungo, rare yellow and white monkeys inhabit the landscape in one of the region’s most unusual and little-known wildlife encounters. Moru Okiror offers jungle walks through terrain of quiet beauty — off any tourist map and known only through local connection.
The Ateker region carries one of East Africa’s richest and least-known cultural heritages. Here you can:
- Visit the Palace of Emorimor — the seat of the Iteso Kingdom and the home of Papa Iteso, the father of the Iteso people — a living centre of traditional authority and cultural identity
- Walk through Ere Iteso — the heartland of the Iteso — and experience traditional Iteso homesteads as they have been kept across generations: the architecture, the arrangement of family life, the rhythms of daily existence rooted in community and land
- Dance alongside the Karamojong at Moroto — in the open air, in the streets, where music and movement are simply part of daily life
- Learn to play the Adungu (bow harp) and Akogo (thumb piano) from musicians who learned from their grandparents — in the communities where these instruments were born
- Sit with elders in the Manyattas of Moru Too and listen to creation stories that have shaped the identity of an entire people across generations
- Engage with the etunganane system — the Teso model of democratic, clan-based collective leadership rooted in Ubuntu, where every clan holds the right to produce a king
- Meet and interact with Ateker kings and cultural custodians through Africa Safari’s unique connections to the Iteso Kingdom
- Visit ETOP Radio — a community voice rooted in the Ateker region — and engage with local media, storytelling and public communication
- Experience the Emaali Cultural Festival, where the living traditions of the Ateker peoples are celebrated in music, dance, ceremony and community
The Ateker Indigenous Knowledge Corridor
Stretching across the borderlands of Uganda, Kenya, South Sudan and Ethiopia, the Ateker peoples — Iteso, Kumam, Langi, Karamojong, Nyangatom, Turkana, Toposa, Bari, Toroit and others — share one of Africa’s most interconnected and least-documented knowledge traditions. Alongside them, the Maasai and Samburu carry living systems of ecology, governance, medicine, music and cosmology that have sustained communities for millennia.
Africa Safari offers a rare guided encounter with this living knowledge — not as museum exhibit, but as living, breathing culture.

Rather than creating its own projects in every location, Africa Safari builds a carefully curated Regional Learning Network of trusted African-led organisations. Participants experience Africa through authentic relationships rather than pre-designed programmes.
Every journey combines learning, hospitality, research, tourism and professional exchange while generating income for African partner organisations and communities.
Participants do not arrive as visitors. They arrive as learners and partners. Africa Safari does not begin with programmes. It begins with relationships.
Regional Learning Network
Uganda and Kenya are the front door. Africa Safari’s Regional Learning Network is expanding through carefully selected partnerships across Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo, with future expansion across West, Central, Southern and North Africa.
