Live & Learn in East Africa is Africa Safari's structured placement programme — a real, supported period of living, working and learning in East Africa. It is not a holiday and not a short visit. It is a genuine contribution: to a community, to an organisation, and to yourself.
Placements are based at Akogo House — our hospitality and community infrastructure in Mombasa, Kampala, Jinja and Soroti. Each participant is matched to a placement appropriate to their background, skills and goals, with full coordination, supervision and safeguarding in place throughout.
Who This Is For
- Volunteers — individuals, church groups, retirees and professionals wanting to give time and skills
- Interns — students and graduates seeking structured professional experience in East Africa
- Study placements — university students completing field research, dissertations or international modules
- Professional placements — experienced professionals in education, health, social work, enterprise or the arts

Safeguarding Commitment
Africa Safari takes safeguarding seriously. Where placements involve contact with children or vulnerable young people through Beats of Hope Africa or partner organisations, all participants undergo appropriate screening, are assigned supervised roles, and work within our established safeguarding framework. Short-term visitors are never positioned as primary caregivers.
Live & Learn in East Africa is part of the Africa Safari East Africa Experiences family. Many participants begin with the 6-day Taste of East Africa journey before committing to a longer placement.
